Lover’s Leap Hike at Custer State Park

February 13, 2021

On February 13, visitors to Custer State Park will have two opportunities to experience the winter sights and sounds of the park and learn about the wildlife that call it home.
The Lovers Leap Hikes will guide participants through a pine forest overlooking Game Lodge complex, meandering near Grace Coolidge Creek. The four-mile hike is rated moderated and allows participants the opportunity to try the recreational event and explore some of the park’s most beautiful winter scenery.
The hikes will depart at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center. Reservations are required and can me made Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. by calling 605.255.4515
There is no cost for the hikes; however, a park entrance license is required. If the amount of snow does not allow for snowshoeing, a guided hike will still be held.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, as temperatures in the Black Hills can be unpredictable. If the park does get a significant amount of snow by Feb 13, the hike will change to a snowshoe hike. Any footwear can be used with snowshoes; however, waterproof hiking boots are recommended.
