Andy has been on horseback since he was old enough to walk, and started leading trail rides at the age of nine, from his family’s dude ranch near Waterloo, Iowa. He’ll lead you on a real trail ride, up secluded elk trails that wind around wooded mountain terrain. As the horses wind their way through stands of trees, over fallen logs and across creeks, they head to the mountain peak for breathtaking 85-mile view!

This is not a typical head-to-tail trail ride.
Personable and charming, Andy was awarded the “Quality Community Service Award” from the State of South Dakota.

Welcome to Bicycles & Boats, a multigenerational family-run business founded by a passionate daughter-mother duo. Our journey began with Black Hills Paddlesports in 2020, where we dedicated our first season to providing unforgettable watercraft and paddlesport experiences.

Recognizing the need for greater accessibility to the area’s sustainable recreation opportunities, we partnered with Acme Bicycles the following season to expand our offerings and establish a home base in Hill City.

Today, we proudly offer a diverse range of bike and paddlesports rentals, shuttle & delivery services, and experiences.

George S Michelson Trail

The George S. Mickelson Trail, in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills, was completed in September of 1998. Its gentle slopes and easy access allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills. Much of the trail passes through National Forest Land, but there are parts of the trail that pass through privately owned land, where the trail use is restricted to the trail only.

The trail is 109 miles long and contains more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. The trail surface is crushed limestone. There are 14 trailheads, all of which offer parking, self-sale trail pass stations, vault toilets, and tables.

Rocky Knolls Golf Course

The 9-hole, par 36 Rocky Knolls Golf Course offers 3,084 yards of precision golf from the longest tee. The natural landscape of the course is refreshing and offers scenic views of the Southern Black Hills. The fairways are lined with mature Ponderosa Pines and demand accuracy off the tee. The course rating is 35.9 and has a slope rating of 136 from the tips. Rocky Knolls Golf Course opened in 1965. The on-site pro shop offers a nice selection of golf apparel for both men and women. Golf supplies like balls and gloves are also available. Hungry? Thirsty? There is a wide selection of food to order from the grill for both lunch and dinner and a full-service bar.

Over 3,600 miles of open roads plus 650 miles of designated trails for all types of Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) await you. Visitors can rent ATV/OHVs from local providers or you can bring your own. For information of rules and regulations, contact the Black Hills National Forest Service or the Visitor Information Centers in Rapid City or Hill City.

ATV/UTV Trails

Recreational enthusiasts of all types will enjoy the world class George S. Mickelson Trail. Stretching 109 miles from Deadwood to Edgemont, the trail passes through Hill City and offers some of the most spectacular views found anywhere. This crushed limestone/gravel surface is perfect for those who want to hike, bicycle, ride horseback, snowshoe, run or cross-country ski.
